Lasik surgery,Lasek and PRK

Corneal surgery with excimer laser is performed to reduce or correct refractive errors in the eye. The use of LASIK surgery is for reducing or eliminating hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism, and the need for glasses. However, LASIK is not suitable for patients with high myopia.

In LASIK surgery, a layer of the cornea is cut and removed, and after the tissue beneath it is reshaped, the layer is repositioned. In contrast, in LASEK and PRK procedures, the outermost layer of the cornea is reshaped and treated without removing it, meaning there are no issues like displacement of the corneal flap, which can occur in LASIK.

The thickness of the patient's cornea is important when an eye doctor considers recommending LASEK instead of LASIK. If the patient’s cornea is too thin, LASEK is usually preferred over LASIK.
