Femtolasik
Femtolasik
This surgery is relatively new and is a type of LASIK procedure where the corneal flap is created using a femtosecond laser. The flap created by femto LASIK is thinner, and it is possible to remove a layer as thin as 90 microns from the cornea. The potential complications of femto LASIK are lower compared to traditional LASIK. However, the risk of corneal ectasia (corneal bulging) in thin corneas is still higher than that of LASEK.
The common recommendation from eye doctors is the use of glasses, but some individuals prefer not to wear glasses and choose to live without them. For such people, two options are available: one is using contact lenses, and the other is LASIK surgery. Contact lenses were introduced nearly 90 years ago and are now easily accessible. Many people use them to live without glasses and to enhance their appearance.
The risk of LASIK surgery is much lower than the risks associated with using contact lenses, as wearing lenses always exposes the eye to potential risks, while LASIK only poses risks during the procedure and in the immediate postoperative period. However, LASIK surgery has specific requirements, such as ensuring the patient's eye prescription has stabilized, and it is used based on individual needs.
The cost of LASIK surgery in Iran is much lower compared to other countries worldwide, including Bangladesh. The technology available in Iran is often considered to be of a superior standard compared to European countries.
The criteria and conditions for LASIK, PRK, and LASEK procedures are as follows:
- Minimum age of 18 years and a maximum age of 55 years (before cataract development).
- No significant change in the prescription over the past year (no more than 0.5 diopters of change).
- Sufficient corneal thickness (not too thin).
- Myopia between -1 to -10 diopters in each eye.
- Astigmatism between 0.5 to 6 diopters in each eye.
- Hyperopia (farsightedness) up to 6 diopters in each eye.
- No keratoconus (corneal bulging) or irregularities in the corneal surface.
- No systemic diseases such as advanced rheumatoid diseases, diabetes, or immune deficiencies.
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- No eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, moderate to severe dry eye, or herpetic eye disease.
